Ron Steffens has worked over twenty seasons as a park ranger and firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service, with Grand Teton National Park serving as his long-term summer home. In winter, he lives in Oregon and Vermont, where he’s an associate professor of communications at Green Mountain College. His essays and articles have appeared in Wild Earth, National Parks, and High Country News, and he regularly reviews environmental books for Bloomsbury Review.
