Richard Ober has spent his career in conservation, with a strong professional side interest in writing. He is currently the executive director of the Monadnock Conservancy, a conservation land trust for southwestern New Hampshire. He spent 16 years as a senior staff member of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and editor of the journal "Forest Notes." He is the co-author of "The Northern Forest" and co-editor of "People and Place: Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests."
