Nat Scrimshaw is Executive Director of the Monteverde Institute, an international study center and a local educational resource, providing programs in tropical biology and conservation, sustainable futures, and gender studies, located in Monteverde, Costa Rica. Nat comes to the “green mountain” of his essay by way of his work in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where he directed the Sandwich Range Conservation Association, and served as the Appalachian Mountain Club coordinator for the New Hampshire Heritage Trail.
