Mitchell Thomashow

Mitchell Thomashow served as Director of Antioch University New England’s Doctoral Program in Environmental Studies before moving up to Maine as President of Unity College. Thomashow consults with organizations such as The Atlantic Center for the Environment, the Jewish Theological Seminary, the Orion Society, Coalition for the Environment and Jewish Life, the Appalachian Mountain Club, and others in setting up environmental education programs and curricula with a focus on ecological identity. He is the founder and supervising editor of Whole Terrain, an editorial board member of Terra Nova, and on the Advisory Board of The Orion Society. He is the author of “Ecological Identity” and “Bringing the Biosphere Home,” from which his essay here is adapted.
