David Abram, Ph.D., is an ecologist and philosopher whose writings have helped catalyze the burgeoning field of environmental philosophy. He is the author of "The Spell of the Sensuous: Perception and Language in a More-than-Human World," which received the 1996 Lannan Literary Award for Nonfiction, as well as of numerous published papers and essays. An accomplished sleight-of-hand magician who has lived and studied with indigenous magic practitioners in Indonesia, Nepal, and the Americas, David maintains a passionate interest in interspecies communication, and lectures frequently on behalf of other beings - including spiders, sea-lions, and stormclouds.
