Interpretation and environmental education are valuable management tools for agencies, and important services for employees of public resource management agencies to provide to visitors. Recognition of excellence in any field is a valuable management tool to promote organizational objectives, improve employee morale, and emphasize the importance of the recognized efforts of the individual to the mission of the organization. The Corps of Engineers will institute the Hiram M. Chittenden Award for Excellence in Interpretation and Environmental Education to recognize outstanding efforts by its field staff in interpretation and environmental education.
