Teacher Education Self-Designed Concentration

Antioch University New England has a long tradition of attracting and inspiring educators who think outside the box. The Experienced Educators Program supports this tradition through our Teacher Education Self-Designed Concentration.

Join like-minded and passionate educators in our six core classes, then branch out to meet your own goals by creating a unique program from courses throughout the department and the University. Interested in Waldorf Education and sustainability? Curious about the connection between mindfulness and teaching? Do you want to focus on integrating the arts into your elementary curriculum? It’s all possible here in the Experienced Educators program. Prospective students can talk to a faculty member to propose a course of study and then your own advisor will help guide you through the program to meet your goals.

Choose the learning style that works for you

We have a mix of on-line and face-to-face courses. Choose the style that best meets your needs. If you are interested in hands-on course work, you may want to concentrate your time in our summer semester or for our weekend intensive electives. If you find that on-line learning fits your lifestyle better, then you can choose from among our on-line courses to meet your needs.

Create a program schedule that meets your needs

The program can be completed in as few as five semesters, although some students may choose to take longer depending on their individual course needs.

This is a 33 credit graduate degree program leading to an MEd in Foundations of Education. Students must take the 18 Credit Experienced Educator “Core” and then can distribute the remaining 15 credits among courses of their choosing. One course must be a curriculum class.

Required Courses for the Self-Designed Concentration are:

Philosophy of Education and Change (3)
Developing Mind (3)
Child Study Practicum (3)
Curriculum Practicum (3)
Equity and Change Practicum (3)
