Description:

Competency Area: Social Aspects of Behavior Restricted to Year IV students. This course will examine potential ways to integrate theories and practices of conflict resolution in the treatment of individuals, couples, families, small groups, and societal problems. We will explore various psychotherapy approaches (e.g., cognitive-behavioral, narrative, and psychodynamic) from the perspective of resolving intrapsychic and interpersonal conflicts. We will also consider how theories and practices of mediation and negotiation interface with a range of psychotherapy interventions. Students will complete a project that applies theories and practices of conflict resolution to their area of special interest in clinical practice.
