Prerequisites: Completion of all CMHC II courses and internships and PYS 604, Social & Cultural Diversity

This course presents the theory and practice of a multicultural ~ counseling approach, building on the foundation presented in Social and Cultural Diversity (PYS 604). Students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of how a multicultural approach to diversity, social justice, and advocacy influences counseling process. A variety of expressive arts and mind-body techniques, drawn from dance-movement therapy, storytelling, ritual, sand play therapy, art therapy, spiritual practice, and mindfulness meditation, that are useful when working with people across cultures, will be introduced. Through out this course, students will also be encouraged to deepen and articulate their own therapeutic style so that they may be flexible and adaptive to a variety of clients and situations.
