This course will provide students with an overview of the theoretical, historical and cultural bases for assessment. Students will become familiar with the basic principles of psychological, nonverbal, and behavioral observation, assessment and analysis for use in diagnosis, treatment planning and intervention applicable with child populations. Ethical standards, issues related to age, gender, ethnicity, culture, language, and disabilities as they pertain to testing and assessment, will be covered. Students will learn procedures for nonverbal assessment, with a focus on the Kestenberg Movement Profile, and will be exposed to other tests and instruments for psychological, environmental and performance assessment. Students will be introduced to reliability, validity and statistical concepts and standards. They will learn the applications of these assessment tools in clinical diagnosis and
