Effective group process and leadership skills are essential to the interdisciplinary field of environmental studies. This course will focus on group development, group dynamics and leadership. This experiential course introduces students to elements of group dynamics and to a model that matches leadership styles to stages of group development. Students work in teams during the course and use course concepts to analyze their experiences. Skills emphasized will be valuable for both group leaders and members and include: group observation and dialogue, working with diverse groups, facilitating collaborative decision-making and managing conflict. Special attention will be placed on case studies in the environmental field. Students are expected to complete course readings prior to the first session
