The Doctoral Integrated Essay is the culmination of the learning domain. It is an opportunity for students' to organize, interpret, and amplify their core scholarly interests. The essay represents the ability to synthesize and conceptualize knowledge, to contribute new ideas to an emerging field of study, to express the theoretical and practical significance of these ideas, and to consider their consequences for scholarship, research, and/or professional practice. The purpose of the Doctoral Integrated Essay is to cultivate those insights, by exploring them in depth, tracing their formulation, development, and application.

Note: The Doctoral Integrated Essay does not meet as a course. The project is discussed in the Doctoral Theory and Practice Seminar. The student receives credit upon satisfactory completion of the integrated essay. Like the Doctoral Service Project course, students' should sign up for this course in the term they will do the bulk of the IE writing.
