TheIntegrated Essay is the culmination of the learning domain. It is an opportunity for students to organize, interpret, and amplify their core scholarly interests. The essay is essentially a literature review which demonstrates the ability to synthesize and conceptualize knowledge, to contribute new ideas to an emerging field of study, to express the theoretical and practical significance of these ideas, and to consider their consequences for scholarship, research, and/or professional practice. The purpose of theIntegrated Essay is to cultivate those insights, by exploring them in depth, tracing their formulation, development, and application. Note: TheIntegrated Essay does not meet as a course. The project is discussed in the Theory and Practice Seminar. The student receives credit upon satisfactory completion of the integrated essay. Like the Service Project course, students should sign up for this course in the term they will do the bulk of the IE writing.
