This reading seminar will review the conceptual underpinnings of resilience science and dynamic approaches to policy design. Starting with some of the foundational papers and ideas in complexity, the discussion will move to the science of resilience itself, including a review of adaptive management. The final discussions will apply these principles to existing real-world problems, and the individual students will seek their own area of focus, summarizing these findings and presenting the outcome of their reading informally to the rest of the group. The seminar seeks to engage a range of doctoral (and potentially masters) students from a diversity of interests and perspectives. (Additional contact hours will be met by specific course work designed to be completed on-line.)
