Introduction to Organization Development
Goals:
- Understand OD as a profession, including the history, theory, and techniques of OD, and OD’s relationship with other consulting and change models.
- Assess your professional interests, styles, OD knowledge and skills, and areas needing further development. Create a Professional Development Plan (PDP) to guide your further development.
- Understand and experience small group development and dynamics.
- Build the group as a learning community.
Competencies:
- Reflect, Integrate, Act
- Self-Knowledge and Development
- Collaborative Change Processes
- Organizational Systems
- Organizational Development Theory
- Interpersonal and Group Skills
These goals are addressed through a five-day residential course that lays the foundation for our individual and collective journey through the OD Certificate Program. We give explicit attention to the development of our learning culture and community that guides us through the complete program.
Topics include the history and values of the OD profession, models of change and collaborative change practices, the role of OD in today’s organizations, challenges and dilemmas within OD consulting, and small group theory and practice as a fundamental OD competency.
Effective OD practice requires a number of elements, including solid theory, practical experience, an ability to work with others, and awareness of one’s strengths and less developed areas. You assess your OD knowledge and skills, and communication, conflict and decision-making preferences and styles. You create your unique Professional Development Plan (PDP) for identifying areas that you want to develop while you are engaged in the OD Certificate Program and beyond.
