Organization Development Program Faculty
Program faculty are highly experienced OD practitioners and graduate faculty members skilled in working with adult learners. Faculty are assigned as advisors and work closely with students throughout the program. The program also uses select guest lecturers.
Peter Smith is a core faculty with the Department of Organization & Management at Antioch University New England, where he has taught for 17 years. During his teaching tenure, he has taught courses in organization development, work redesign, systems, and leadership. Currently, he teaches Change Models and Applications, Group Dynamics and Leadership, and Organizational Strategy and Decision Making. As a faculty member, Peter works closely with graduate students through his role as an academic advisor and practicum supervisor.
He is also an organizational consultant with over 20 years of experience working with senior managers, management teams, work groups, and individuals in such areas as organizational and team effectiveness, conflict management, work redesign, strategic planning and management, and coaching. His clients include over 70 organizations from a range of sectors including: health care, human services, engineering, energy services, and high technology. Consulting projects have included:
- working with the senior management team of a venture capital-financed internet telephony software firm to clarify its roles, responsibilities and decision-making;
- working with an interdisciplinary team to redesign the new product development process for a company that designs and manufactures telephone ‘bridges’ for conference calls;
- redefining roles and responsibilities for a work team of a state agency that was downsized;
- helping two business partners of a $30-million company determine their personal and organizational goals for growth and expansion;
- the creation of an improved work process and clear roles for the program operations function for a public radio station;
- and the development, design, and delivery of a year-long leadership training for substance abuse treatment and prevention professionals from New England.
Peter has a strong commitment to the development of individuals and groups with an emphasis on creating lives that are rich, balanced, and rewarding, both professionally and personally. In addition to achieving this work through consulting relationships, he has created the CEO Group and the OD Consulting Skills workshop. The CEO Group is designed for heads of organizations from the non-profit and for-profit sectors to provide a place for counsel and support for those who are leading at the top. The OD Consulting Skills workshop is a 3-day training designed to provide professionals with the tools and knowledge to move their consulting practice to the next level.
His experience includes over 13 years in management, including responsibilities as Budget Director for Central Maine Power Company and President/CEO of BayPort Title Company. He is a graduate of Youngstown State University (MBA), the University of Maine (BS), and NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Sciences with a certificate in organization development.
He is a member of the National Organization Development Network, the Association for Psychological Type, and the Massachusetts Bay Organization Learning Group.
