Why Choose Our Green MBA?Why an MBA in Organizational and Environmental Sustainability?Today, an emerging awareness of the ecological impact of doing business is changing how individuals and organizations define success. Today's enterprises need to operate in the present without compromising the future, looking beyond current resources to project what they will leave for generations to come. The Master's in Business Administration in Organizational and Environmental Sustainability—the Green MBA—reflects Antioch University New England's progressive approach to business education and a commitment to empowering leaders who can balance economic, environmental, and human sustainability. To lead effectively in the rapidly changing business environment, our MBA students develop a new set of skills and knowledge that exceeds the boundaries of the traditional MBA curriculum. At Antioch University New England, understanding financial management is as important as earth systems, corporate social responsibility is as critical as marketing, and team development is as vital as supply chain management. Becoming a leader in the field of sustainability requires the ability to communicate about profit margins and return on investment and climate change and social justice. Antioch MBA graduates know how to lead businesses to do well financially while doing good for people and the planet. “I was genuinely impressed with the quality and sophistication of the thinking coming out of the MBA in Organizational and Environmental Sustainability program at Antioch while working there with students to address a thorny management issue in one of our projects. There is no question in my mind that the natural systems perspective taught and practiced at Antioch confers an intellectual and business advantage to all those who partake of its curricula.” Students make an impact. Our MBA students have launched a chapter of Net Impact, an international organization whose ten thousand members actively improve the world as leaders in corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability. Each year a team of student leaders host guest speakers, events, and online conversations to enrich the academic program. In addition, teams of students attend the annual Net Impact Conference to learn about new initiatives, career opportunities, and solutions to business challenges. In 2008, Antioch University New England's MBA students participated in Net Impact's annual ranking of colleges and universities; the Antioch MBA ranked in the top five in multiple categories. Career DevelopmentAntioch MBA students come from all backgrounds—corporate America, non profits, farming, education, health care, government, construction, sales and marketing, technology, finance, education, and human services. We attract students who are in career transitions, recently graduated from undergraduate programs, or are asking to make a change in their current employment. All see an MBA as the lever to helping them achieve professional goals while advancing their personal missions towards a more environmental sustainability and socially just world. Students participate in multiple career development activities: information interviews with current sustainability leaders, networking with businesses working towards more sustainable practices, and consulting for regional organizations facing sustainability challenges. Faculty advisors assist students in evaluating their skills and building professional networks to prepare for professional growth, career changes, and/or launching of new enterprises.
