Global Transition Movement is First Event in AUNE’s Fall Speaker Series

October 4 talk will highlight local response to Peak Oil and climate change

(Keene, NH)-- The annual fall Speaker Series at Antioch University New England (AUNE) kicks off at 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, with “Global Transition Movement: Innovative Local Responses To Peak Oil and Climate Disruption.”

The talk, held in AUNE’s Community Room, is free and open to the public.

The speaker is Steve Chase, founding director of AUNE’s Advocacy For Social Justice and Sustainability track in the Department of Environmental Studies, and a co-founder of the Transition Keene Task Force.

The international Transition Movement seeks to build community resilience in the face of such challenges as peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis by engaging communities in their redevelopment. Its vision is that the collective creativity of all communities in the world will unleash an extraordinary and historic transition to a future beyond fossil fuels. That future will include a more vibrant, abundant and resilient local economy and a cultural way of life that is ultimately preferable to the present mass consumer society. Come here what's happening around the world and right here in Keene, New Hampshire.

Other Fall Speaker Series events:

  • Thursday, November 3 — “Food for All: A Community Conversation” A joint presentation of Antioch University New England, Community Garden Connections and Monadnock Community Market Co-op
  • Thursday, November 17 — Screening of Louder Than a Bomb Teri Young, adjunct faculty member in AUNE’s Department of Education, will introduce the film, followed by discussion.
