NEWS RELEASEContact: Jan Fiderio at 603.283.2107 September 14, 2011 for Immediate Release Global Transition Movement is First Event in AUNE’s Fall Speaker SeriesOctober 4 talk will highlight local response to Peak Oil and climate change (Keene, NH)-- The annual fall Speaker Series at Antioch University New England (AUNE) kicks off at 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, with “Global Transition Movement: Innovative Local Responses To Peak Oil and Climate Disruption.” The talk, held in AUNE’s Community Room, is free and open to the public. The speaker is Steve Chase, founding director of AUNE’s Advocacy For Social Justice and Sustainability track in the Department of Environmental Studies, and a co-founder of the Transition Keene Task Force. The international Transition Movement seeks to build community resilience in the face of such challenges as peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis by engaging communities in their redevelopment. Its vision is that the collective creativity of all communities in the world will unleash an extraordinary and historic transition to a future beyond fossil fuels. That future will include a more vibrant, abundant and resilient local economy and a cultural way of life that is ultimately preferable to the present mass consumer society.
