NEWS RELEASEContact: Jan Fiderio at 603.283.2107 March 30, 2009 for Immediate Release Global Warming and TibetAntioch University New England Hosts Free Public Talk with International Campaign for Tibet President John Ackerly Who: John Ackerly, President of the Washington, D.C.-based International Campaign for Tibet Keene, NH - John Ackerly, president of the Washington, D.C.- based International Campaign for Tibet, will speak at Antioch University New England about the impacts of global warming on one of the planet's most sensitive eco-systems, the Tibetan Plateau, on April 16 at 7 p.m. Ackerly will explore the environmental and social-justice impacts of global warming on Tibet, the effect it has on farmers and nomads, and the political repression that hinders Tibetans from addressing these crucial issues. The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) works to promote human rights and democratic freedoms for the people of Tibet. Founded in 1988, ICT is a non-profit organization with offices in Washington, Amsterdam, Berlin and Brussels and field offices in Dharamsala and Kathmandu. He has written many reports on Tibet, including; Nuclear Tibet: Nuclear Weapons and Nuclear Waste on the Tibetan Plateau; A Season to Purge: Religious Repression in Tibet, and Jampa: The Story of Racism in Tibet. Mr. Ackerly attended Dartmouth College and the Washington College of Law. Prior to joining ICT, Mr. Ackerly practiced civil rights law at a law firm in Mississippi. He lives in Takoma Park, Maryland, and wants his 2-year old son to enjoy a healthy, not-too-warm planet. This event is free and open to the public.
