NEWS RELEASEContact: Jan Fiderio at 603.283.2107 October 5, 2011 for Immediate Release Keene Community Garden Connections Invites New Garden SitesAUNE and community partners expand local program (Keene, NH) —Keene Community Garden Connections (CGC) is looking for sites for two or three more community gardens for the 2012 growing season. Local organizations and agencies in Keene can apply to host the garden sites, which help underserved populations. CGC’s Anna Cynar, an environmental studies student at Antioch University New England (AUNE), said the sites need not have lawns—the raised-bed gardens can be built on parking lots, decks or other areas without soil. Applications are due Friday, October 21; sites will be announced Friday, November 11. Interested organizations may contact CGC at communitygardens@antioch.edu or find application materials and information about the project at: http://www.antiochne.edu/cgc/ apply.cfm. You can also follow CGC’s blog at http://keenecommunitygardenconnections.wordpress.com. Last year, AUNE partnered with Harper Acres on Castle Street and the Keene Recreation Center on Washington Street to develop the first two CGC garden sites. Keene CGC is a project of the Antioch University New England’s Department of Environmental Studies whose purpose is to build Keene’s local capacity to grow food and address issues of food insecurity related to climate change, personal and communal health and resiliency. With the help of a private donation from the Rashti Foundation, CGC supports the installation and cooperative maintenance of raised-bed gardens, in partnership with local service agencies, community members, students, staff and faculty.
