NEWS RELEASEContact: Jan Fiderio at 603.283.2107 January 18, 2012 for Immediate Release Make It a Habit to Shop for the Hungry, TooAntioch University New England students ask you to sign the pledge (Keene, NH) -- The Net Impact chapter at Antioch University New England (AUNE) is asking you to make it a habit: Every time you shop, pick up a nonperishable food item to help feed the hungry. To encourage you, the Net Impact students have launched a pledge drive, called the Perpetual Food Pledge. Its goal is one hundred pledges by January 31. The launch of the Perpetual Food Pledge coincides with the time of year when donations drop off and food shelves and kitchens often find their cupboards bare. “We took on this project with the hope that it will bring awareness to the fact that the number of people who experience food insecurity in New Hampshire has increased by ninety percent since 2006,” said AUNE student Becky Holt, a member of Net Impact. “Grabbing one additional healthy, non-perishable food item every time you shop for groceries is a way of acknowledging that hunger is not only something that a small demographic of people grapple with during the winter months—it is a year-round, silent struggle of your neighbors.” The idea for the Perpetual Food Pledge started with Antioch University Los Angeles, and was brought to the AUNE Net Impact chapter by Polly Chandler, chair of AUNE’s Department of Management, and Bonnie Powers, director of web services. Drop your donation wherever you wish—your town’s food shelf, church food-donation box or in the food drop box at the supermarket. There will also be a donation box at AUNE whose contents will go to the Keene Community Kitchen. Membership in AUNE’s Net Impact chapter is open to all MBA in Sustainability students.
