Randy Carmel is Named Chair of NYC Bar Committee

Trustee at Antioch University New England works with children and families

(Keene, NH) – Attorney and local resident Randall Carmel, a member of the board of trustees at Antioch University New England (AUNE), has been appointed chair of the New York City Bar Association’ s Children and the Law Committee. His appointment is effective September 1, 2011.

Carmel worked in New York City after graduating from law school in 1986 and then moved to Keene in 2000. His law practice focuses on appellate work representing low- income minority children and families in New York City. He also works closely with his father in the family real estate business.

Carmel served as president of the board of directors of Sophia's Hearth Family Center, a nonprofit early-childhood teaching center in Keene, from 2001-2003. He is actively involved in Congregation Avahas Achim, serving as vice president from 2003 to 2006 and president from 2006 to 2009. He was a member of AUNE’ s Board of Visitors from 2004 to 2008.

The New York City Bar Association, founded in 1870, has more than 23,000 members. Its committees comment on public policy and pending legislation through reports, amicus briefs, testimony and letters drafted by committee members. The New York City Bar has a diversified membership and is involved in justice initiatives, international human rights and pro bono representation in many areas, including immigration, AIDS, homelessness and criminal justice.
