Campus Compact for New Hampshire presents 2008 awards
Antioch University New England faculty member, student group and partner honored on April 15
Keene, NH - Antioch University New England is pleased to announce the following Campus Compact for New Hampshire (CCNH) 2008 Presidents Awards.
Polly Chandler, director of Antioch University New England's Green MBA program and director of AUNE's Tomey Center for Organization Development has received the Campus Compact for New Hampshire (CCNH) 2008 Presidents' Good Steward Award.
The Presidents' Good Steward Award honors a faculty, administration or staff member who has contributed his or her professional expertise to serve the wider community and who has significantly advanced public service on their campus. Polly embodies service leadership and service learning in all aspects of her work. She was responsible for beginning a Net Impact chapter at AUNE and as director of the Tomey Center, she has lead multiple projects that provide AUNE students and alumni the opportunity to act as consultants to nonprofits, schools, and small businesses. In addition, through Polly's Earth Systems Science class students were able to work with Stonewall Farm to help the staff revisit the nonprofit's mission and vision and begin to identify new revenue streams. This project provided a rich learning experience for students and a valuable service for a local nonprofit organization. Chandler is a core faculty in AUNE's Department of Organization & Management.
The Antioch University New England Student Alliance has received the CCNH 2008 Presidents' Leadership Award. The Presidents' Leadership Award honors a student or student organization that has made outstanding contributions to community service, service learning, and/or civic engagement efforts on their campus.
At AUNE, the Student Alliance provides a voice and a means for students to participate in AUNE's governance and also provides leadership for community service activities in the Monadnock region and beyond. Over the past 15 years, the Student Alliance has lead many community outreach initiatives including clothing and food drives for disaster relief assistance. It has also provided volunteers for restoration projects and trail clean-ups and volunteers for community food pantries. The Student Alliance actively supports Keene's Earth Week festivities by assisting with fundraising efforts and volunteering for activities during the week. The Alliance has created stronger links between faculty and students in the department of environmental studies and has made life for all students at Antioch University New England richer.
Stonewall Farm received the Presidents' Community Partner Award, accepted by executive director Kathy Harrington. The Presidents' Community Partner Award is given to a non-profit organization that has enhanced the quality of life in the community in meaningful and measurable ways and engaged in the development of sustained, reciprocal partnerships with a college or university.
Antioch University New England chose to honor Stonewall Farm because it has been an enthusiastic, long-time educational partner. Many environmental education students have worked as educators at Stonewall Farm through practicum and summer employment. This year, Stonewall Farm launched a project with AUNE's new Green MBA students that resulted in recommendations to the Board of Directors on strategies for increasing their revenue stream while capitalizing on the earth systems of the farm. As a local nonprofit, Stonewall Farm is committed to connecting people to the land and understanding the role of local agriculture in their lives. It has become both an agricultural education center for families and students and a model in sustainable agricultural and organic farming best practices. It is a community resource for local food production, including organic milk, beef and vegetables, and demonstrates how we can reduce our carbon footprint by becoming a localvore. Stonewall Farm is evolving as a leader in sustainable agriculture practices for the Monadnock region.
