AUNE Named a Finalist for the NHBSR Cornerstone Award
Winner will be announced June 1at the NHBSR annual spring conference
Keene, NH - May 8, 2009 - New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility (NHBSR) just announced that Antioch University New England is one of the five finalists for its Cornerstone Award.
NHBSR presents the Cornerstone Award every year at its spring conference to a company, organization, or individual that exemplifies the principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and promotes the concepts of CSR to the greater business community within the state of New Hampshire. The recipient of this year's award will be announced at the organization's sixth annual spring conference on Monday, June 1 at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, New Hampshire.
According to NHBSR executive director Molly Hodgson Smith, the many qualified nominations reflect the integrity of New Hampshire's business community and the level of commitment to sustainability and CSR issues. Vince Perelli, chief of planning and policy for the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and event co-chair added "While we only select one recipient annually for this award, we like to honor all of our finalists for setting such great examples for the rest of us to follow."

Antioch University New England
Since its founding in 1964, Antioch University New England (AUNE) has supported the tenets of corporate social responsibility, and as its mission, provides transformative graduate study education through scholarship, innovation, and community action for a just and sustainable society. Andrew Kellar, founder of Simply Green, a Biofuels Company, is an exemplar for Corporate Social Responsibility. In an industry infamous for irresponsible behavior, Kellar is making honesty and sustainability work in home heating. Simply Green is developing into the foremost supplier of BioHeat, a blend of biofuel and regular heating oil, and Biodiesel, a similar blend of biofuel and regular diesel, on the Seacoast, and it is due to Kellar's entrepreneurial energy and commitment to responsible practices.

The articles talk about why Hypertherm feels CSR is so important and shares ways in which every company can become involved in their community. In addition, Hypertherm holds an annual Volunteer Fair to which the community is invited. The fair aims to match Hypertherm associates and community members with nonprofit organizations that need volunteer help.
Stonyfield Farm
Stonyfield Farm believes in its 'handshake with the consumer,' by enjoying a constant dialogue with purchasers of Stonyfield products. Since the early 1990s, the company has produced over 300 million yogurt lids with environmental and educational messages to inform people and inspire them to take action on issues like campaign finance reform, climate change, and the Farm Bill. In addition, an annual "Bid With Your Lid" program calls on consumers to cast a vote on how $100,000 is distributed between three organizations that help the earth. Stonyfield Farm CEO Gary Hirshberg is an outspoken ambassador for sustainable business practices. Through public speaking engagements throughout New Hampshire, Gary continually promotes Stonyfield as a role model to other businesses that environmentally and socially responsible companies can be Earth friendly and still be profitable.
