Third Annual Autism and Asperger's Exposition Open to the Public

Connect with the greater Autism/Asperger's community on March 20.

Antioch University New England's Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders Training will host its third annual exposition on March 20. This year's expo will include a presentation of the first President's Award for Outstanding Contributions to Autism Education. The award will be presented to the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism.

The exposition enables family members, individuals, professionals, and providers in the region to connect with the greater Autism and Asperger's community. Nearly three hundred people attended this free event last year. The expo will be held in the Antioch University New England (AUNE) lobby at 40 Avon Street in Keene, New Hampshire. Exhibitors will display materials from noon to 2 p.m. and informational presentations will run from noon to 3 p.m.

AUNE's Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders Training co-sponsors this event with The Asperger's Association of New England, The Autism Society of New Hampshire, NH Connections, and Monadnock Developmental Services.

Update: New Hampshire and Vermont Autism Insurance Reform. Kirsten Murphy, executive director of ARCH of the Upper Valley and administrative director of the New Hampshire Council on Autism Spectrum Disorders, explores the true meaning of insurance reform for families, schools, and professionals.

1:00 - 1:45,
Coaching for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Panel members Ellen Korin, Barbara Bissonnette, and Shelby Wietzel coach individuals with autism spectrum disorders. They will explain what coaching is, how it differs from other forms of treatment, and how they measure success.

Award Presentation to The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism. AUNE will honor the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism with the first Presidents Award for Outstanding Contributions to Autism Education. The Flutie Foundation was chosen for its support of AUNE's Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders Training and for its support of other autism and asperger's related services in the greater Monadnock Region.

The 1000 Piece Puzzle with Carol Ann Edscorn. Using neuroscience, sensory integration, and special interests to look toward the future, Carol Ann will introduce current neuroscience research about the autistic brain. Edscorn is a writer and presenter who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 1995. She is an educator with the Freedom Writers Foundation and has an entry in the book Teaching Hope. In addition to her master's in Urban Affairs Management, Carol Ann earned a graduate certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Antioch University New England.
