NEWS RELEASEContact: Jan Fiderio at 603.283.2107 August 8, 2011 for Immediate Release Free Programs on Invasive Pest, the Emerald Ash Borer, To Be Held in KeeneAUNE student, specialist on emerald ash borer, to talk about pest on Aug.15 and 18 (Keene, NH) -- Two public seminars on an invasive pest, the emerald ash borer, and its threat to the Keene area will be held August 15 and 18 at the Keene Public Library. The program will be presented by Lisa Yeaw, emerald ash borer specialist for the New Hampshire Division of Forest and Lands and a student in the Department of Environmental Studies at Antioch University New England (AUNE). She will report on efforts to reduce the pest’s impact on Keene and the rest of New Hampshire. She will also highlight insect and host identification, symptoms and reporting procedures. The free seminars will be held in the auditorium of the Keene Public Library, 60 Winter Street, Keene, New Hampshire:
The emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis, is a threat to all species and sizes of ash trees, which are found throughout the city of Keene on main thoroughfares and in parks, citizens’ yards, protected lands and forests, according to Yeaw. The insect has already done severe damage to ash trees in other communities in the Northeast and Midwest. The seminars are sponsored by the Division of Forest and Lands, AUNE, Monadnock Conservancy and the Keene Public Works Department.
