Antioch University New England's Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program Receives CACREP Accreditation

Rigorous, multi-step accrediting process is a success

(Keene, NH) August 12, 2009 - Antioch University New England's master's degree, Clinical Mental Health Counseling program has successfully met requirements for accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

CACREP, a national independent accrediting agency for programs that prepare individuals to enter the counseling profession, is recognized by the Council for Higher Education. Earning CACREP accreditation is a rigorous multi-step process that includes conducting a comprehensive self evaluation against CACREP standards, an on-site visit and report by a CACREP accreditation team, an institutional response to the CACREP team report, and a decision to accredit by the CACREP board.

"We are delighted that our Clinical Mental Health Counseling program meets CACREP standards," said Nancy Pike, Antioch University New England's Department of Applied Psychology chair. "It was a pleasure to work with the CACREP team and going through the process was both educational and challenging."

Antioch University New England's Clinical Mental Health Counseling program trains counselors to help people address the personal, familial, and social issues that interfere with their abilities to lead healthy and productive lives. The practice-oriented program equips graduates for a variety of specialties in mental health counseling, including community agency work, substance abuse and addictions work, in-patient treatment, and college counseling. The program is part of AUNE's Department of Applied Psychology, which also hosts programs in dance/movement therapy and counseling, marriage and family therapy (master's and doctoral), and autism spectrum disorders.
