NEWS RELEASEContact: Jean Amaral at 603.283.2404 January 23, 2008 for Immediate Release Monadnock Actions for Climate Change ForumWhen: Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 6-9p.m. Local Sierra Club members and Antioch to host panel discussion on how area residents and businesses can reduce their carbon footprint. Keene, NH - Antioch University New England and the Monadnock Group Sierra Club will host former Keene Mayor Michael Blastos; Keene Fleet Superintendent, Steve Russell; Eco-Logic Homes founder John Nielson; GDS Associates energy auditor Gretchen Tillson; and Solar Source and Home-Efficiency Resources founder John Kondos for a forum discussion on Tuesday January 29. The panel will focus on ways local residents and businesses can improve the comfort and efficiency of their homes, how they can use renewable energy, and how doing so can create local jobs. The forum will begin at 7 p.m. Topics will include: Transportation, energy efficiency for existing homes, solar energy options, green building for new homes or additions, and a general discussion of “reducing, reusing, and recycling.” Speakers will offer practical information on actions local residents and businesses can take to minimize their contribution to climate change. A question and answer period will follow the forum. Attendees can peruse information tables hosted by local organizations and businesses preceding the forum from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This program is one of Antioch's Focus the Nation events. Focus the Nation is an effort to bring climate change to the national attention. Antioch will be a local epicenter, teaming up with the Sierra Club and Keene State College to widen regional impact. The week-long series of events include lunchtime discussions and the inclusion of global warming in classroom curriculum during a national teach-in. A live web cast on January 30th of the 2% Solution will be held at the Keene State College Mabel Brown Room. All programs are free and open to the public.
