Engaged in voluntary provision of (and long-term research on) culturally sensitive, emancipatory psychoeducational assessments for black HIV+ children in Soweto, South Africa. Experience providing assessment, consultative, and support services for an NGO in Johannesburg, South Africa. Clients are HIV-positive, black children and their surviving caregivers living in Soweto. Consultations have been to support the non-professional careworkers (members of their clients' community) who provide outreach health and emotional support to the clients.
Qualifications
Dr. Susan Hawes is a licensed psychologist in New Hampshire and Massachusetts who is involved with the study of the history and culture of South Africa and a three month-long volunteer experience with a NGO in Johannesburg.
