Field Studies

MBA Sustainability Field Studies

The fall learning journey was our first exposure to the real world implications of our studies. It provided an excellent framework for us to proceed academically, while highlighting the vast array of opportunities available to us after graduation. —Josh Mahlick

Field experiences are an important and unique feature of our MBA in Sustainability degree. Understanding ecological systems and business systems is a key component to developing an expertise in sustainability.

We offer three types of field experiences: field trips, learning journeys and international studies.

Our field trips take place during class and allow students to visit an organization and reflect on the field experience with classmates while on campus for a class weekend. Learning journeys are a required part of our accelerated MBA program and an elective experience for all other students. Learning journeys are two to three day long trips to a number of regional organizations and involve more in-depth studies around the themes of a course. International studies are a way for all students to come together to explore issues of sustainability at a global level. As a university-wide initiative, we bring together our Seattle, Los Angeles, New England, Midwest and Santa Barbara students and alumni to immerse ourselves in the sustainability efforts of another country.
