Services for Students

The library on the campus at Avon Street is open seven days a week during the academic term and provides quiet and comfortable study space for students and other Antioch community members. There is wireless internet access in the library and students are welcome to use their own laptops, or one of the library’s computers (please note that there is no printing from library computers). Food and beverages are allowed in the library although we ask that care be taken near our computers!

All of the library’s services and collections are designed to support the low-residency, adult graduate student. Our services equally serve students at cluster sites, on-campus weekly, or off-campus, finishing dissertations.

Research Resources

Students have access both on and off-campus (via password) to more than one hundred research databases and thousands of full text journals, in addition to an in-house collection of books, journals, and other materials selected specifically to support ANE’s academic programs. Research Guides list resources by subject area and will tell you which ones are most appropriate for your topic.

Personalized Research Support

Reference librarians can assist with all aspects of conducting research: advising on framing, narrowing, or focusing your research inquiry; suggesting appropriate research resources; constructing database searches; and getting from research results to full-text. Librarians are available for individual consultation, group project consultation, regularly scheduled workshops & help sessions, and in-class research support. Our reference librarians provide research support by phone and email, as well as in person.

Tutorials

Brief online tutorials (under 5 minutes) are available for various components of research, from logging in to databases to finding the full-text of articles.

Library Accounts

Log into your library account to see what books you have checked out, when they’re due, and other information on your library record.

Course Readings

In accordance with instructor request and copyright policy, the library makes certain readings available to students. These can either be on print reserve (kept at the library’s circulation desk), or electronic copies (this information will be indicated on your syllabus). Electronic course readings are posted in FirstClass course conferences.

Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery

  • Items such as books or journal articles which are not owned by ANE Library may be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Books and other physical items received through Interlibrary Loan can either be picked up at the library or can be mailed to off-campus students; items received electronically can be accessed online.
  • If you need a book which is on the shelf in the library and don’t get to campus regularly, we can mail it to you. Use the Interlibrary Loan request form for this service.
  • If you need a copy of a journal article which is on the shelf in the library and don’t get to campus regularly, we can scan it and send it to you electronically. Use the Interlibrary Loan request form for this service.

Laptops

ANE Library has several laptops available to students for 24-hour check-out.

Bibliographic Management Software

“Bibliographic management” programs keep records of your citations, organize them, and help you format citations and bibliographies properly.

Many students choose Zotero to organize their citations, as it's easy to use, free, and available to students after they graduate from Antioch. RefWorks is another program offered free to current Antioch students, staff, and faculty. RefWorks is not available to students once they graduate.

There are links to video tutorials for both programs on our Tutorials & Tip Sheets page, or you can contact your librarian for more information and a demonstration.

Audiovisual Equipment

ANE students can check out various types of audiovisual equipment, including data projectors, audio and video recorders, and digital cameras. Contact the library (in person, by email, or call 603.283.2400) for details about our equipment and how to reserve it.

Feedback

The library staff continually strives to improve the services offered. Please feel free to provide feedback to us at any time by emailing staff, using our online form, or stopping by in person.
