About the database

  • ProQuest Psychology Journals is a full-text collection of over 400 academic journals in psychology, education, and related fields. To access the database, click in the box above. After log-in, click on "Databases Selected" and check ProQuest Psychology Journals.
  • For suggestions on how to effectively search the database, click on Help in the upper right of the search screen.
  • Also, use the Topic Guide to search for specific subjects.
  • Note: Full text availability varies widely depending on the particular journal. For example, full text is available for articles in the journal American Demographics from 1987 to the present, but full text for the Journal of Career Assessment only goes back as far as 1998.
    • To find out what the full text coverage is for a particular journal:
      • Click on the Publication Search tab.
      • Type the name of your journal in the search line.
      • Years for which full text is available will be indicated in parentheses next to the title.
  • For some journal titles there will be abstracts only and no full text. If you see a citation with only a link to the Abstract, click on the “Journal Linker” icon to see if the journal is available elsewhere online in fulltext.

What journals are in the collection?

When you enter the database, you will come to the Basic Search screen. Click on the tab labeled “Publication Search.” You can look for a journal by specific title; see a list of all journals included in the collection; or search for journals beginning with a particular letter.

How do I find a particular article in the database?

If you are looking for a particular article, choose Advanced Search. In Advanced Search, you can find a specific article by putting in its title and/or the author, publication title, date, etc. For example, to locate the full text of the article in this citation:

Peers as teachers of anger management to high school students with behavioral disorders; Judith A Presley; Behavioral Disorders, Tempe; Feb 2000; Vol. 25, Iss. 2; pg. 114, 17 pgs
  • At the Advanced Search screen, type peers as teachers of anger management in the first search line and choose document title in the drop-down menu next to the line.
  • In the second line type behavioral disorders and choose publication title in the drop-down menu.
  • Hit the Search button. The search results will bring up a citation with choices for either text & graphics, PDF, or article citation & abstract.
