What is ABI?

ABI/Inform Global is a business-oriented database which contains content from journals that help researchers track business conditions, trends, management techniques, corporate strategies, and industry-specific topics worldwide. Citations, abstracts, and in many cases the full text of articles from over a thousand journals are available.

  • Subject Area: Business, Management, Economics, Planning
  • Journals indexed: trade journals, scholarly (peer-reviewed) journals
  • Formats: Abstracts, full text, full image, Text+Graphics
  • Overall dates of coverage: 1971 - present
  • Total titles covered: 1,400+

What journals are available in ABI?

At the ABI search screen, click on the Publication Search tab.

  • You can type in a particular journal title to see if it is in ABI.
  • You can click on a letter in the alphabetical list to see all journal titles beginning with that letter.
  • You can click on “Show All Publications” to see the entire list of journals in ABI.
  • Next to each journal title is information about full text coverage for that particular journal.

Journals in ABI are also indicated on the ANE e-journals A-Z list. See Finding Journals at ANE for further information.

Is this a full-text database?

ABI is considered a “full-text” database. However, full text availability varies widely depending on the particular journal and an article’s publication date. For example, full text is available for articles in the journal American Demographics from 1987 to the present, but full text for the Journal of Career Assessment only goes back as far as 1998. You may find citations and abstracts for articles that do not have full text.

To find out what the full text coverage is for a particular journal:

    class=“bgcocoa1”
  • On the Search page choose the Publications Search tab.
  • Type the name of your journal in the search line.
  • Years for which full text is available will be indicated in parentheses next to the title.

How do I find a particular article?

If you are looking for a particular article, choose the Advanced Search tab. In Advanced Search, you can find a specific article by putting in its title and/or the author, publication title, date, etc.

For example, to locate the full text of the article in this citation: “Primal Leadership.” Jane Bozarth, Training, June 2002, Vol. 39, Issue 6, p. 62, do the following:

  • On the Advanced Search screen, type “primal leadership” in the first search line and choose “article title” in the drop-down menu next to the line.
  • In the second line type training and choose “publication title” in the drop-down menu, OR type “bozarth” and choose “author” from the drop-down menu.
  • Click the yellow Search button.
  • The search results will bring up a citation with 3 icons below it, two of which indicate full text in different formats, and one for the article abstract.

Full text can be printed, downloaded, or emailed to your personal email account.
