Teacher leader position (admin and instructional support) - Laurel Elementary (OUSD)

Looking for an opportunity to expand your leadership skills and experience? Laurel Elementary is looking for a teacher on special assignment (TSA) with a strong background in student intervention and the ability to support a staff of 22 in the provision of a strong instructional program. This is an ideal opportunity for a teacher-leader looking to grow into an administrative and instructional leadership role!


Laurel Elementary serves 550 students and counts on the expertise of over 22 teachers across grades K through 5. The Laurel community includes a highly active parent branch, a diverse set of community volunteers, and various partner programs that provide direct services to students. Laurel’s community and student body is composed of a culturally varied population representing Asian (primarily Cantonese), Latino, African American, and multi-ethnic backgrounds.

The TSA role will function as both an instructional leadership role (60%) and administrative support role (40%) and will require close collaboration with the school’s leader.

Instructional support duties include, but are not limited to (60%):

  • Coordinating the work of teachers providing intervention support to students
  • Guiding teachers through diagnostic and intervention plan development
  • Piloting the Fast Forward (online) program
  • Providing direct support to students during online program lab time

Administrative duties include, but are not limited to (40%):

  • Tutor/volunteer recruitment and coordination
  • Online program administration
  • Testing coordination
  • Budget management
  • Partner contract supervision
  • Data regulation (with use of Edusoft)

  • Ability to work with a diverse community demographic; understanding of complexities in multi-ethnic environments and equipped to connect with community members from a variety of cultural backgrounds
  • Strong diagnostic abilities
  • Experience in intervention plan development
  • Solid pedagogical and curriculum background
  • Program management experience
  • Ability to engage partners and manage relationships with service providers
  • Familiarity with budget processes
  • Understanding of effective testing/assessment compliance and coordination
  • Willingness to go above and beyond scope of delineated role
