Supervisor, Disaster Relief Case Manager

Brooklyn Community Services is one of Brooklyn's largest and first non-sectarian social services agencies. Serving more than 10,000 individuals annually, BCS provides a broad and diverse range of services including prevention of foster care placement; crisis intervention; early childhood and after school education; vocational training, job placement, and clinical services to adults.

BCS is participating in broad-based relief efforts to assist Brooklyn residents in the Hurricane Sandy storm aftermath. BCS has focused our efforts in Coney Island – one of the areas most severely devastated by Hurricane Sandy. We are especially trying to reach families who suffered substantial losses not covered by insurance and not funded by FEMA. BCS is providing short and long term relief recovery, and assistance including: benefits assistance; mental health and family counseling; support and guidance around entitlements; and essential furnishing, household supplies, and clothing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Supervise five service coordinators who provide disaster case management services to up to 35 families at any one time.

·Ensure that service coordinators provide thorough, qualitative assessments, information and referral services, and develop outcome based individualized disaster recovery plans with families.

·Develop and ensure the provision of orientation to the DCM program to potential clients in group format or on an individual basis.

·Ensure that service coordinators work in full compliance with funding source expectations.

·Consult with service coordinators about special or high needs families and assess their functioning. Provide crisis intervention services when appropriate.

·Oversee case conferencing where needed with other service providers serving clients.

REQUIREMENTS:

MA degree and four years minimum related experience.

Demonstrated skill in providing in-person assessment, crisis intervention, problem solving, advocacy, referrals, and emotional support to a wide range of clients.

Prior experience supervising staff preferred. In the absence of prior experience, candidate must display on interview strong skills in this area.

Computer literacy including MS word, e-mail, and on line data tracking systems.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
