Social Justice Educator for HiSET ( formerly GED) Instruction

Our HiSET
(formerly GED)
classes are a
required
component of UTEC’s Wor
kforce Devel
opment Program
for youth who
do not possess a high school
credential
.
The HiSET
educator
will incorporate
social justice themes with
strong academic content
and
workplace skills in their classroom instruction. All students
are in the HiSET classroom 2 hours a day
with
opportunities for 1:1 tutoring and educational support
.

reports to the Senior Director of Programs.
Responsib

lities

Teach two 2
-
hour sessions of HiSET classes a day
ï‚·
Supervise 2 classroom assistants
who are A
meriCorps members
ï‚·
Build upon and develop an innovative curriculum that not only helps youth attain a HiSET credential,
but also makes learning engaging and applicable to their personal and professional lives and help
s
the
m explore social justice topics
ï‚·
Ass
ess prospective program participants on their academic strengths and needs upon intake
ï‚·
Participate in scheduled
youth progress meetings with each
youth’s Program Manager and
Transitional Coach
ï‚·
Collaborate with
members of the WFD team to integrate academic
content with what youth are
working on in our culinary, furniture design and mattress recycling social enterprises.

Assist with UTEC
-
wide events outside of classroom hours
Qualifications
ï‚·
BA Required
ï‚·
Teaching certification preferred
ï‚·
At least two years of
teaching experience required
ï‚·
At least one year of supervisory experience preferred
ï‚·
Ability to multi
-
task and adapt to a changing environment
ï‚·
Ability to laugh at oneself a must
Benefits
: 3 weeks paid vacation, 10 paid sick days, and health/dental benefits (50

85% subsidized).
