The United Teen Equality Center (UTEC), a youth development organization in Lowell, is looking for a
qualified
Science and Green Education teacher
for
its Alte
rnative Diploma Program,
a
n exciting
partnership between UTEC and the Lowell Public Schools that
helps
32 students who have dropped out of
school or are at high risk of dropping out
obtain their high school diploma
.
The program engages students
through small classes featuring
project
-
based learning and
curricula that connects learning to issues
socia
l
justice
and real world challenges
.
The
teacher
will be a member
of an instructional team that will work
collaboratively to create a highly engaging learning community under the supervision of the ADP
Director.
ADP follows a year round schedule with thr
ee trimesters (Fall, Winter, and Spring) and a 4
-
week
Summer Session.
Responsibilities

utilize
UTEC’s
new Green building

the oldest Platinum LEED

ertified
building
in the nation
as a dynamic environmental
learning
center for s
tudents and
the wider commun
ity

velop and i
mplement project
-
based curriculum
that engage
s
students in hands
-
on
learning
a
nd
real world problem solving
ï‚·
W
ork with our current institutional partners, such as
Lowell Community Hea
lth Center,
and
develop new partnerships
to
strengthen our
STEM and health curricula
ï‚·
W
ork with students to explore food justice issues and grow fresh produce in our community
garden
plot through Mill City Grows
ï‚·
P
articipate in weekly department meetings, U
TEC’s morning circle
with all youth and staff
,
monthly award
ceremonies, and school trips
Qualifications
ï‚·
Minimum 2
years of teaching experience
required
ï‚·
License to teach in Massachusetts
required
ï‚·
Experience and/or strong interest in environmental
education and ecology required
ï‚·
Experience working
in an urban setting
and/or with at risk youth preferred
ï‚·
Special Education certification preferred
ï‚·
Ability to multitask and adapt to a changing environment
ï‚·
Ability to work
collaboratively o
n a team
ï‚·
A sense
of humor and knowing how to have fun while working hard
Compensation
Th
is full

tim
e
position offers an annual salary range of $40,000
-
45,000, commensurate with experience,
3
weeks
paid
vacation, paid holidays and sick/personal time, health and dental (50
-
85% subsidized).
