Sales & Marketing Director

Founded in 1971 and based in San Francisco, NatureBridge is the largest residential environmental education partner of the National Park Service. Its mission is to inspire personal connections to the natural world and responsible actions to sustain it. NatureBridge currently operates in six national parks: Yosemite National Park, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Olympic National Park, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Channel Islands National Park, and Prince William Forest Park. Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The newly created position of Sales & Marketing Director will develop innovative marketing and sales strategies, utilize state-of-the-art technology and proven methodologies to reach diverse populations, and drive sales of NatureBridge’s life changing environmental field science education programs. This position serves as the operational lead of all sales and marketing, supervises the Marketing Communications Specialist, works in partnership with campuses and program staff, and leverages national and regional NatureBridge resources to effectively reach target audiences. The Sales & Marketing Director is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and reports to the Vice President of Operations.

Sales of NatureBridge programs involve selling experiences and services, not commodities. A successful Sales & Marketing Director understands this distinction and is able to structure his or her strategic planning and sales execution accordingly. NatureBridge’s most common customers are teachers, school administrators, and parents. This audience is faced with unique challenges and pressures, and a thorough knowledge of today’s educational system and the ways in which NatureBridge programs can support success in the classroom is a must.

Marketing & sales

  • Develop, implement, and revise as necessary a comprehensive sales and marketing strategy that will ensure the achievement of short- and long-term earned revenue goals of more than $11 million annuallyspecifically:

â—‹ marketing campaigns

â—‹ pipeline development

â—‹ sales metrics data

  • Work with the Vice President of Operations, regional directors, and sales and marketing staff to pinpoint key strategic sales and marketing initiatives for the organization and its locations
  • Leverage NatureBridge national and regional resources to drive the sales process
  • Consult with and actively involved with regional directors and sales and marketing staff in the development of the annual earned revenue budget and long range financial projections
  • Develop, market, and sell the first NatureBridge-wide Summer Field Research course catalogpilot scheduled for 2014
  • Oversee all market research and build a long term strategy for research-based planning
  • Support sales and marketing staff in effective use of newly developed CRM (Salesforce)

Brand management & collateral

  • Oversee and approve the production and distribution of NatureBridge-wide marketing materials in print and online formats to targeted external audiences
  • Manage the work of the Marketing Communications Specialist in producing all collateral for NatureBridge, including ensuring all materials are on brand and follow style guidelines
  • Build, maintain, and manage the reputation of NatureBridge; lead brand management and oversee style guidelines

Website & social media

  • Serve as editor in chief of NatureBridge website; oversee website content in partnership with regional and national marketing staff, development staff, and Director of Communications
  • Manage search engine optimization for the NatureBridge website
  • Effectively utilize social media to drive sales
  • Focus on effectively implementing emerging technology for increased efficiency and effectiveness in all NatureBridge departments
  • Oversee and develop NatureBridge digital assets

Mentoring

  • Build strong relationships with, communicate clearly and regularly with, and develop sales and marketing training for:
    • Regional sales and marketing staff
    • Director of Communications
    • Director of Development
    • Marketing Communications Specialist
  • Design and implement regular staff training and information sharing to improve staff marketing and sales efforts
  • Build and maintain relationships and partnerships with sales and marketing leaders from other nonprofits and the field of environmental education
  • Actively participate in the work of the Communications Committee of the NatureBridge Board of Directors
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • A minimum of seven years professional experience with increasing responsibility for design, implementation, and management of marketing and sales strategies in a nonprofit or educational arena
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to drive sales
  • Demonstrated ability to measure effectiveness of marketing campaigns and report actionable outcomes
  • Experience marketing and selling educational programs to schools a plus
  • Proven capacity to understand, use, and anticipate changes in social media and emerging technology
  • Proven capacity to communicate with and successfully reach culturally and ethnically diverse target audiences
  • Effective supervisory skills and prior supervisory experience
  • Effective skills in time management, budgeting, and program oversight
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills; must have credibility, good judgment, honesty, and integrity
  • Initiative to solve problems with energy and a positive attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player with grace and flexibility in a rapidly changing environment
  • Computer proficiency in a Mac environment; experience in web and print publishing preferred
  • Commitment to the mission of NatureBridge
  • May require some weekend and evening work and the ability to do some travel
