Run a campaign to stop fracking in North Carolina!

Chapel Hill Assistant Canvass Director

The Fund for the Public Interest is seeking two smart, motivated, action-oriented college graduates to start by March 31 as the Assistant Canvass Directors for our Chapel Hill office

From toxic contamination of drinking water supplies to destruction of our farms and forests, Fracking is one of the greatest threats facing our environment in decades. So Environment North Carolina is working to stop this dangerous gas drilling by standing up to the large energy industries.

As the Assistant Canvass Director of the Fund’s Chapel Hill office, the staff you supervise educate citizens about the issues and get them involved in campaigns to win progressive change. They do this by canvassing; they go out into communities to talk to as many people as possible and get them involved. Your job is to build a team of committed activists who mobilize hundreds, even thousands of citizens to take action. You give leading groups the people power they need to win.

As the Assistant Director you help to run the Chapel Hill grassroots campaign office. You and the other directors are responsible for hiring, training, and managing a staff of up to 40 canvassers, who work full-time to educate the public, sign-up members, build visibility, raise money, and put grassroots pressure on decision makers. You will train staff on effective canvassing and campaigning techniques. You will evaluate staff performance and give ongoing feedback. And you will identify strong staff, teach them leadership skills, and promote from within. In addition, you will canvass two to three times a week so you can train new staff; evaluate current staff; raise money, identify and activate members, and educate the public on the issues.

You will oversee administrative functions related to campaign goals, staff management, fundraising and membership development, and general office management. You will ensure that funds raised and member information collected gets to the partner organizations and complete your staff’s payroll accurately and in a timely fashion.

Candidates must have strong verbal communication and public speaking skills. Leadership experience or campaign experience is a plus.
