Run Canvass Offices for Environment America
The Fund for the Public Interest is seeking smart, motivated, action-oriented college graduates to join our team as Assistant Canvass Directors for the 2014-2015 season. The Fund will be running 20 door-to-door canvass offices in partnership with Environment America, working on critical environmental issues like fighting fracking and protecting our waterways. Apply today.
For staff who will start in July 2014, the application deadline is May 31, 2014. In-office training starts in mid-July, followed by a week of classroom training the first week of August. Assistant Directors will make a commitment to work through August 2015.
As the Assistant Director you help to run a canvass office. You and the other directors are responsible for hiring, training, and managing a staff of up to 40 canvassers, who work full-time to educate the public, sign-up members, build visibility, raise money, and put grassroots pressure on decision makers. You will train staff on effective canvassing and campaigning techniques. You will evaluate staff performance and give ongoing feedback. And you will identify strong staff, teach them leadership skills, and promote from within. In addition, you will canvass two to three times a week so you can train new staff; evaluate current staff; raise money, identify and activate members, and educate the public on the issues.
You will oversee administrative functions related to campaign goals, staff management, fundraising and membership development, and general office management. You will ensure that funds raised and member information collected gets to the partner organizations and complete your staff’s payroll accurately and in a timely fashion.
Candidates must have strong verbal communication and public speaking skills. Leadership experience or campaign experience is a plus. We value student group leadership as well as work experience and academic achievement.
