Program Coordinator, Earth Gauge

The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), a national leader in building public environmental literacy based in Washington, D.C, is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator for its Earth Gauge program. Earth Gauge, a partnership with the American Meteorological Society (AMS), provides weathercasters and other media professionals with the resources they need to present a range of environmental and climate topics on-air, online, in social media and in community outreach.

Earth Gauge provides weathercasters and other media professionals with a free, weekly email that includes environmental information tied to the local 3-day forecast and a "climate fact" about observed trends and impacts of changing weather and climate patterns, along with visuals and infographics, in-depth fact sheets, online courses and other educational resources. Earth Gauge content and resources are currently distributed to subscribers in 120 U.S. cities, including weathercasters and journalists at 165 local ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC affiliate stations and ten Spanish-language Telemundo and Univision stations. Earth Gauge also reaches AccuWeather, The Weather Channel and other national outlets. In addition to media, we work with a broad range of nonprofit, government and university partners.

The Program Coordinator will conduct research and outreach for Earth Gauge.

  • Outreach: The program coordinator will conduct outreach and communication with current and potential program partners, with special emphasis on outreach and communication with Spanish-language media partners. This includes communication with current Telemundo and Univision media partners, as well as identification of new media partners and distribution opportunities for Spanish-language content.

The program coordinator will also assist with development and maintenance of Earth Gauge website content, social media sites and program-related materials, and will engage in special projects and administrative duties as needed.

Candidate must be fluent in Spanish. The ideal candidate will have: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, atmospheric science, natural resources, or a related field.
