Barrie School, a student centered learning community with students age 2 – grade 12, seeks a middle and upper school physics teacher for 2014-2015. Barrie is located on a beautiful 45 acre campus just outside Washington DC. Our program encourages students to develop their own individual interests and talents through hands-on experiential learning. Our curriculum embraces grade level themes and promotes interdisciplinary, project based learning.
We seek a scientist with strong interdisciplinary interests who can motivate and inspire students. While core teaching responsibility will be Physics, the individual should have broad-based scientific knowledge and leadership experience. In addition to physics, he or she should be comfortable teaching chemistry, biology, and/or environmental science.
The qualified candidate will employ the latest technology and demonstrate a desire and ability to teach outside a traditional classroom setting, utilizing our 45 acres of campus resources, including ponds, trees, wooded trails, streams, and horses. Embracing our values of respect for self, others, and the environment, Barrie teachers are committed to working with a diverse group of learners in a collaborative, and flexible community.
Additionally, the qualified candidate must be eager to advise students and willing to carry out the tasks expected of all full-time faculty. An interest in coaching, drama or other after-school activities is an expectation. A creative spirit and a sense of humor are essential.
