OST Director/Educational Specialist


Position: OST Director/Educational Specialist Reports to: Site Director

Location: Richmond Hill, NY FLSA: Exempt


The OST Director/Educational Specialist is responsible for the success/quality of the program, its students and staff. The OST Director/Educational Specialist manages the day-to-day operations of an OST program operating within a Center Based Boys & Girls Club. The OST Director/Educational Specialist works in the Site Director to ensure all OST requirements are met and quality programming is being offered to all participants. He/she will be tasked with ensuring the the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens continues to be a safe space where children can expect to be challenge physically and mentally during each program. It is expected that the OST Director/Educational Specialist will conduct him/herself in a professional manner and always maintain appropriate boundaries.

Essential Job Functions:

  • OST Director
    • Effectively supervise, manage and assist in the implementation of quality, engaging programming to approximately 50-150 youth per day
    • Create a program schedule that provides academic support, skill-driven sports, and other Boys & Girls Club programming
    • Organize special and culminating events
    • Responsible for implementation of curriculums, and ensure line staff is properly trained
    • Lead formal staff meetings creating working agendas
    • Meet agency deadlines in the planning and implementation of monthly calendars
    • Collaborate with Site Director and other OST Directors to evaluate program and staff
    • Plan and supervise OST and Saturday trips
    • Ensure timesheets are properly filled out and handed in on time
    • Input and monitor attendance and ensure it is imputed timely and accurately into DYCD online and Boys & Girls Club tracking
    • Report program incidents to Site Director in a timely manner
    • Must have the ability to work in fast paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Maintain clean programmatic areas located throughout the club
    • May be asked to complete other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Educational Specialist
    • Work with Site Director and other OST Directors to identify and develop program specific/ age appropriate curriculum, tutoring and lessons.
    • Assess student’s academic progress and review individual educational plans generated by i-Ready
    • Work with Site Director to establish and maintain relationships with feeder schools
    • Work with activity specialists to create lesson plans using approved templates
    • Ensure all activity specialists are properly trained in implementing curriculums
    • Adhere to all DYCD contract requirements

Work Schedule:

  • School Year: 12-8pm
  • Summer: 9-5pm
  • OST Days: Program is required to operate on at least 13 school holidays throughout the school year. Director’s schedule will vary depending on trips
  • Some weekend work is required
  • Medical benefits begin after 3 month probation
  • Paid vacation begins after 6 months probation


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education required
  • At least 3 year experience working in After School and implementing lessons
  • Prior Boys & Girls Club experience preferred
  • Must pass all required City and State background checks
