Mathematics Specialists (Consultant)

Vision

  • Work on site 1-2 days a week and visit each math classroom
  • Consultant would provide feedback (written and verbal) to each of 4 teachers
  • Consultant would communicate regularly with math coach and administrator to keep feedback focused and aligned to coaching/development areas
  • Goal areas (broadly speaking)- (1) small group work (2) conceptual understanding of concepts (3) data to accurately measure different levels of scholar understanding and (4) co-teaching

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated evidence of exceptional math profiency (growth) on a standarized test
  • Strong understanding of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
  • Masters degree in Mathematics Education or related field
  • Minimum of five years in middle and/or high school mathematics classroom teaching expertise Experience coaching teachers
  • Strong conceptual knowledge of mathematics
  • Experience using technology and Smart boards preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a consult and gives content rich face to face and written feedback
  • Assists teachers in developing and improving lesson plans, and specifically putting the learning in students hands (i.e. understanding concepts via manipulative or other materials)
  • Models quality lessons, lesson plans, and small group work in classroom as needed
  • Lead team of teachers through co-teaching model so that resource teacher and classroom teacher are both leading the room efficiently and effectively
