Manager, REDD+ Finance Tracking

Position Summary

Forest Trends is seeking a Manager for REDDX, a REDD+ finance tracking initiative that follows high-level public and private commitments for REDD+, determining when and how funding is spent on the ground in fourteen countries. To date, REDDX has focused on designing a robust project methodology, building partnerships with civil society organizations in fourteen countries, collecting data, and developing an online platform and infographics to present findings (http://reddx.forest-trends.org/).

Over the next year, the initiative will focus on disseminating and communicating findings collected thus far and look for ways to best influence REDD+ finance efficiency and effectiveness debates. Forest Trends therefore seeks a strategically leader and confident team player to perform the following:

Key Role and Responsibilities

Project/Partnership Management

  • Manage partnerships with fourteen REDDX civil society organizations globally
  • Coordinate ongoing relations with national governments and international policy and financing institutions such as the REDD+ Partnership's Voluntary REDD+ Database
  • Develop additional partnerships with other organizations to collaborate and promote common messages
  • Oversee multi-million, multi-year budget in line with donor grant requirements while ensuring continued strong relationships with donors

Strategic planning and communications

  • Develop a communications strategy for REDDX to influence key policy makers, donors, and REDD+ stakeholders
  • Design and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy
  • Conduct outreach and promotion of REDDX website and products within international fora

Research and writing

  • Supervise annual updates to the REDDX data collection
  • Develop a series of thematic reports/briefings discussing emerging findings
  • Spearhead the writing of the 2014 REDDX Global Synthesis Report

Website development and management

  • Oversee a team managing the continued development of and improvements to the REDDX database and website
  • Lead a team developing new automatically-generating infographics for display online
  • Manage database and infographic consultants and contract additional staff when necessary

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree and two to three years of experience managing international programs
  • Sound grasp of REDD+, forest conservation policies, climate finance and payments for ecosystem services (PES) mechanisms
  • Demonstrated knowledge of REDD+ finance networks and donor financing structures at national and international levels
  • Experience in influencing key political stakeholders and shaping policy debates, both nationally and internationally
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated fundraising experience
  • Proven experience managing multi-million and multi-year budgets

Additional Qualifications

  • Willingness to travel (15-20%)
  • French, Spanish and Portuguese language skills a plus

Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Location: Washington, D.C. (non-negotiable)
