JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
LAND PROTECTION SPECIALIST (FT)
The Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC)
seeks qualified candidates for the position of Land
Protection Specialist
(LPS)
beginning March 1, 2014.
The
Land Protection Specialist
will be
based out of
the
PLC's office
,
located in the iconic New England village of New Boston, NH
overlooking
the Piscataquog River but will be required to
travel and
conduct
fieldwork
primarily
within
in
a 220 square mile watershed
.
The PLC
was founded in 1970 as a member supported nonprofit organization dedicated to the
conservation of natural resources in the Piscataquog River
watershed
in
south central New Hampshire
.
The PLC
now protects
nearly 6,000 acres
on 98
properties
.

Position Description:
The LPS is responsible for the direct oversight of land protection activities for the PLC
.
S/he is
charged with identifying and initiating land protection opportunities that meet the PLC's
conservation goals, as well as screening conservation projects to insure they meet established criteria. The LPS manages all transactional aspects of the PLC's acquisitions, by gift or purchase,
of conservation easements and fee interests from private landowners, governmental entities,
and other conservation groups
.
S/he represents the organization in conservation partnerships
or coalitions and works collaboratively with conservation partners to achieve short and long
term conservation goals.
Primary Duties:
The LPS is responsible for carrying out
all aspects of PLC's real estate transactions
in compliance
with
PLC policies and with national
Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices, including:

Project identification and development

Assessment and documentation of conservation values,

Design
and recommendation of project structure
and terms,

Landowner communications and negotiations,

Drafting
of
legal documents
,

Contracting and oversight of subcontractors,

Completion of due diligence
, and

Leading project fundraising efforts, including public presentations, donor
solicitations,
and
preparation and submission of
grant applications.
Other Responsibilities:
As an integral member of PLC's staff, the LPS

Serves
as support staff to PLC's
land protection committee

Attends
PLC events,
and
interacts with and
engages
PLC
supporters

Serves
as PLC represent
ative in partnerships, collaborations and initiatives with
municipalities, other NGO's and state and federal agencies

Required Qualifications and Skills

BA/BS in
related field such as
forestry,
environmental science, natural resource
management

Knowledge
and experience with
ArcGIS 10.1
and typical office software programs

Ability to interpret maps, surveys,
and
legal documents

Ability
to hike rough terrain
and to
navigate via map
and
compass
and GPS

Ability to speak effectively and cogently to diverse audiences,
build positive
relationships and gain consensus

Experience successfully managing
multiple
complex projects
independently

Able to work
independently in
a small
, busy
office
environment

Valid driver's license, proof of insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
