Information Officer (GIS Coordinator)

Job Responsibilities

The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the Hudson River Estuary Program are seeking a GIS Coordinator to create and develop GIS databases and to manage data generated by programs within the NYSDEC Division of Water. Candidate will develop GIS user applications to manage wastewater infrastructure information submitted by permittees and will perform analyses on a wide variety of datasets. Candidate will create and maintain GIS maps of sewer service areas and conduct spatial analysis to identify high priority water bodies and wastewater treatment facilities for water quality improvement projects and funding opportunities. Position is expected to extend for 12 months.



The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems, mathematics, information or computer science, or a related field, with six months’ experience developing GIS databases and applications. Coursework on remote sensing, Java programming, and SPSS statistical analysis preferred. Experience with relational databases (Access and Oracle), statistical software (Excel and SPSS), and query languages (SQL) required. Ability to convey GIS/spatial information to non-GIS/technical people preferred.
