Homelessness Prevention Program Hotline Coordinator (part-time)

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct phone-based eviction prevention counseling with tenants in housing crisis
  • Engage in a calm and compassionate manner with callers who may be facing eviction, legal issues, extremely low income status, mental health and substance abuse issues, domestic violence and other barriers to sustainability
  • Identify tenants who may be eligible for intensive one-on-one intervention services with the Homelessness Prevention Program and conduct brief program assessment
  • Provide advice, information and referral to tenants who contact the program but are not eligible for services
  • Cultivate and maintain guide to referrals for local programs and services
  • Prepare assessments of potentially eligible callers for weekly program case review

Schedule Requirements

  • This is a part-time (20 hours per week) position
  • Coordinator must be able to commit to coming into work for some amount of time on each day of the work week, Monday through Friday (exact scheduling of work day hours is flexible and would be determined by coordinator’s preference)

Required Skills

  • Previous experience providing direct client services desired, experience with housing and homeless services strongly preferred
  • Patient, respectful demeanor toward individuals in crisis; ability to relate compassionately to diverse populations
  • Accountability, good time management, and organizational ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a broad range of people
  • Bilingual capacity is highly desirable
