The Montclair Cooperative School is seeking an experienced and talented progressive educator and administrator for its Head of School position starting July 1, 2015.
Founded in 1963, the Montclair Cooperative School (the Co-op) is an independent, progressive, co-educational school, serving approximately 175 students from nursery through eighth grade. We are a community of students, teachers and parents dedicated to creating a diverse and nurturing environment where children flourish intellectually, creatively and emotionally while developing exceptional social skills and a deep sense of community responsibility. The Co-op’s whole-child curriculum is interdisciplinary, emphasizing inquiry, diversity, critical thinking and deep understanding, while supporting individualized social and emotional growth.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for, and experience in, progressive education at the early-childhood though middle school levels; the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and parents; excellent communication and organizational skills; a strong sense of purpose and vision and a great sense of humor. A Master’s degree in Education and teaching experience at a variety of grade levels are preferred. Because of the importance of our cooperative model, additional emphasis will be placed on a candidate’s experience in facilitating communication and building consensus among different constituencies.
