Physicians for Social Responsibility is seeking an exceptional writer and development expert to join our team to work on climate change, chemical toxics, and nuclear weapons foundation and major donor fundraising.
As a health professional led organization, PSR’s mission is to protect human life from the gravest threats to health and survival. Our national staff and chapters marshal the medical and public health voice for the prevention of nuclear war, abolition of nuclear weapons and reductions in the threats of climate change and toxic chemicals. Our work focuses on advocacy and policy change at the national, state and local level.
The Manager of Foundation and Major Donor Relations is responsible for research and outreach planning to current foundations and new prospects and directing major donor outreach and management.
Foundation funding: Working with our program staff, the manager will develop original or edit drafts of letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, and other stewardship and acknowledgement materials. The Manager will facilitate and participate in regular meetings with current and prospective foundation donors and be a member of the executive management team to remain current on program activities and to participate in program planning. The Manager will research and cultivate prospective foundation donors with the executive director and maintain a calendar of deadlines, contacts, and stewardship reports.
Major donor cultivation: The Manager will direct the stewardship of major donors in conjunction with board and executive director participation and the development and membership specialist. Duties include directing leadership circle mailings, determining ongoing relationships with prospect/donor; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; and providing direction to those involved in cultivation and solicitation. Management: Supervises the Development and Membership Specialist. In conjunction with the executive director, the Manager develops short- and long-range fundraising objectives and prepares report for the Board of Directors.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree. At least 5 years of related work experience is required along with foundation fundraising experience, extraordinary attention to detail, superb written and oral communications skills, and exemplary critical thinking skills. Advocacy background is helpful. Must have a positive attitude and be a team player who can work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
